What the GDC's CPD rules ask of you
The GDC's enhanced CPD scheme in brief: the hours, the spread, and what a good certificate looks like.
Minimum verifiable CPD per 5-year cycle
| Registrant | Minimum hours |
|---|---|
| Dentists | 100 |
| Dental therapists, hygienists, orthodontic therapists, clinical dental technicians | 75 |
| Dental nurses and dental technicians | 50 |
| Temporary registrants (dentists) | 20 |
- If you hold more than one title, you meet the requirement for the title with the highest hours.
- You must do at least 10 hours in any 2 consecutive years, including across cycles.
- You make a CPD statement at every annual renewal, even if you did no CPD that year.
- Each activity must link to at least one of the GDC's development outcomes (A to D).

The GDC does not accredit CPD
The GDC says: "We do not quality assure CPD." Providers are responsible for quality assurance. Your certificate should include:
- the subject, learning content, aims and objectives
- the GDC development outcome(s)
- the date and total CPD hours
- your name
- confirmation that the CPD has been quality assured, with the name of the person or body responsible
- confirmation that the information is full and accurate
